Trump and Kim Jong Un May Meet Again This Fall
U.S. President Donald Trump plans to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un this fall to resume discussions on the nuclear program.
According to information reported by The Wall Street Journal, based on data provided by American officials, the meeting between the two parties could take place in November in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, where the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit will be held. However, WSJ sources emphasize that formal preparations for the meeting have not yet begun.
Previously, the U.S. leader instructed to scale back the annual Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS) joint military exercises with South Korea, which are organized to prepare for potential conflicts with North Korea. The U.S. president stated that these military drills are excessively costly, and “a large portion of their financing comes from the U.S. itself.” Trump also noted that they send “entirely unnecessary aggressive signals to North Korea.”
During Trump’s first term, the leaders of the two countries met three times, but those negotiations did not culminate in any agreement regarding North Korea's nuclear program.
