Second Criminal Case Against Kamo Areyan Sent to Court

The second criminal case against Kamo Areyan, an advisor to the Yerevan Mayor, has been sent to court. A measure of restraint has been chosen for him, prohibiting his absence from court. According to information from the 'Datalex' information system, the case against Areyan and former city hall employee Naira Ter-Stepanyan was assigned on August 4 to Judge Tigran Davtyan of the Anti-Corruption Court.

According to the charges, from 2003 to 2009, Areyan, serving as the first deputy mayor of Yerevan, assisted Mayor Yervand Zakharian in the transfer of official powers, resulting in the 'Orphan, Children Deprived of Parental Care Special School' state non-commercial organization losing its land plot granted for free use. Consequently, the Republic of Armenia faced severe repercussions due to negligence, losing property rights to a land plot valued at 105 million drams in market value.

It should be noted that on July 21, the Prosecutor General's office initiated public criminal prosecution against Kamo Areyan. Within the same criminal proceedings, on April 23, 2026, the prosecutor also initiated public criminal prosecution against former Yerevan Mayor Yervand Zakharian for abuse of official powers that negligently led to grave consequences. On July 28, it became known that his criminal case had been registered in court and assigned to Judge Sargis Petrosyan of the Anti-Corruption Court.
