Putin Tightens Grounds for Migrant Expulsion
The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has signed a law significantly expanding the list of violations for which foreign citizens can not only be fined but also expelled from the country.
The document was published on the official portal of legal information in Russia. The new law has more than doubled the number of administrative violations that can lead to expulsion, reaching a total of 45.
Specifically, expulsion will threaten foreigners who exhibit discrimination based on gender, race, nationality, language, religion, or other characteristics; fail to comply with the legal requirements of military personnel safeguarding the state border; and violate public order and security.
The law also stipulates expulsion for organizing or participating in unauthorized gatherings, protests, marches, and pickets; displaying extremist or Nazi symbols; inciting hatred or hostility; making public calls aimed at violating Russia's territorial integrity; discrediting the Armed Forces; as well as making public calls for political or economic sanctions against Russia or their extension.
The new regulations apply exclusively to foreign citizens and stateless persons, who may face administrative expulsion from Russian territory for such violations.
