Constitutional Amendments are Primarily Necessary for Armenia to Ensure Lasting Peace - Chakhoyan
When Samvel Karapetyan states that we are waiting for triggers to take action, his hope and goal is just that, that at some moment the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan might suddenly escalate, a minor incident occurs at the border, and using all of that, they will go to the streets to rally the people around them, hoping to achieve a change of power. This was noted by MP Taron Chakhoyan during a conversation with reporters in the National Assembly on August 5.
“There will be no such thing; this peace will last, and their hopes that this peace may one day be undermined will remain just dreams in their stomachs,” he stated.
Addressing Azerbaijan's demand for constitutional changes, the MP from the ruling party commented: “The constitutional amendments are primarily necessary for Armenia. The changes to the Constitution must ensure the sustainability of peace. They have created a fuss, claiming there’s no reference to the Declaration of Independence in the new Constitution. Why isn’t it there? There’s a simple reason: the page of the Nagorno-Karabakh movement is de facto closed in Armenia, but it is not yet closed de jure. It is primarily us who need to close it because by doing so, we will ensure the sustainability of peace.”
