Zelensky Sought Starlink Access to Strike Russian Missile Sites
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky requested assistance from U.S. President Donald Trump during closed negotiations, asking for permission to gain access to the Starlink satellite communication system by Elon Musk, with the intention of using it for operations against Russian military targets. This was reported by The Atlantic, citing its sources.
Starlink is a satellite internet system developed by Elon Musk's SpaceX, which provides connectivity in various parts of the world through thousands of satellites. The system is also used in Ukraine for military purposes, ensuring communication and data transfer.
According to the publication, SpaceX limits the operation of Starlink in Russian territory, forcing Ukraine to rely on unreliable navigation systems. Zelensky reportedly noted that access to Starlink could help deliver more effective strikes on Russian mobile ballistic missile systems.
Trump promised to discuss the matter with Elon Musk but did not provide any guarantees that he would support Kyiv's initiative. The U.S. President's decision will depend on whether he views the move as a means to promote the end of the war or, conversely, as a factor that exacerbates tensions.
