NATO Develops Plans to Strengthen Nuclear Deterrence in Europe Due to 'Threats' from Russia

NATO is developing plans to expand nuclear deterrence in Europe. This was reported by the DPA news agency.

According to sources, one of the options under discussion is the deployment of additional American nuclear weapons in Europe. Experts do not rule out that the U.S. may have already transferred B61-12 type nuclear bombs to the Lakenheath airbase in the United Kingdom.

In the event of further escalation of the security situation, potential locations for the deployment of American nuclear bombs could also include Poland, Finland, and Lithuania.

The focus is mainly on so-called non-strategic nuclear weapons. Compared to strategic weapons, these have a smaller explosive yield and can be delivered to the target by combat aircraft, short-range missiles, or cruise missiles.

According to DPA, the development of the alliance's new plans is prompted by alleged threats from Russia. On July 22, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow does not intend to attack anyone. At the same time, he emphasized that if European countries choose to start a conflict with Russia, it would be a 'non-conventional war.'
