Melania Trump Keeps Bees at the White House

The White House announced on April 24 the expansion of its honey production and beekeeping program, with Melania Trump participating in the installation of a new beehive. A new operational beehive shaped like the White House has been installed on the South Lawn, bringing the total number of bee colonies to four. These bees will pollinate the vegetation of the National Mall, as well as the adjacent flower and vegetable gardens. Honey production is expected to increase by another 13.5 kg, with a favorable year potentially yielding over 100 kg.

The honey produced will be used at the White House itself and also donated to local food businesses. According to the Associated Press, the installation of the beehive was part of the preparations for the upcoming state visit of beekeeping enthusiasts King Charles III and Queen Camilla. However, significant changes to the visit’s schedule are possible due to a shooting that occurred during a reception attended by Donald Trump.
