TRIPP Remains a Priority for the U.S., State Department Says
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump remains committed to realizing the "Trump Path for International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP) initiative. This was stated by a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State in response to an inquiry from Armenpress.
"TRIPP remains one of the priorities of the United States, as it has the potential to promote peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus and beyond. The Trump administration is steadfast in its commitment to making TRIPP a reality," the spokesperson noted.
The spokesperson also reminded that the project aims to create a multimodal transportation hub connecting Azerbaijan's mainland and Nakhchivan while respecting Armenia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction, as well as ensuring mutual benefits for Armenia.
"TRIPP will ensure international and domestic connectivity in the region, expanding opportunities for economic growth and increased prosperity," the U.S. Department of State spokesperson added.
According to the spokesperson, Azerbaijan will gain a connection to Nakhchivan, while Armenia stands to benefit from improved regional links, which will unlock the economic potential of the South Caucasus while preserving Armenia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction.
The spokesperson also reported that Armenia is cooperating with the United States and mutually agreed-upon third parties to implement the TRIPP initiative.
"To support the launch of TRIPP and associated agreements, the United States has committed an initial amount of $145 million, which will enhance regional stability and economic growth. These funds will support investments in trade, infrastructure, and border security within Armenia and will increase regional connectivity," the spokesperson said.
The U.S. Department of State spokesperson further noted that on January 13, 2026, the United States and Armenia jointly announced the publication of a framework for the implementation of TRIPP.
"This document outlines a clear pathway for the launch of TRIPP. Reflecting the principles established on August 8, 2025, it also emphasizes the importance of sovereignty, jurisdiction, territorial integrity, and reciprocity for the overall success of TRIPP. As President Donald Trump has stated, TRIPP will traverse some of the 'most economically significant locations in the world' and will 'boost trade activity on the other side of the Caspian Sea, helping Central Asian countries,'" the spokesperson concluded.
The ultimate goals of TRIPP are to strengthen the prosperity and security of Armenia and Azerbaijan, expand U.S. trade opportunities by enhancing regional commerce and connections, and create new transit links from Central Asia and the Caspian region to Europe.
