NATO is a 'Paper Tiger': Trump
Donald Trump has stated that the issue of the U.S. leaving NATO is 'off the table for reconsideration.' The U.S. President has announced that he seriously considers the prospect of the United States withdrawing from NATO, as the alliance has not united against a war with Iran, reports the British Daily Telegraph.
He referred to NATO as a 'paper tiger,' emphasizing that the question of the U.S. leaving is 'beyond the bounds of reconsideration.' Trump highlighted that allies have not agreed to send warships to open the Strait of Hormuz. This is the reason the White House no longer views Europe as a reliable defense partner.
Secretary Marco Rubio stated that NATO has become a 'one-sided street,' noting that the U.S. will have to reconsider its relationship with the alliance if allies refuse to provide access to military bases. Trump also criticized the United Kingdom and Prime Minister Keir Starmer for not participating in the war against Iran.
