Khamenei's Assassination Is a Declaration of War Against Muslims, Says Iran's President
The assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is a declaration of war against the entire Islamic world. This statement was made on March 1 by President of the Islamic Republic Masoud Pezeshkian, as reported by the IRNA news agency.
“The assassination of the Supreme Leader is an open war against Muslims, especially Shiites, in the farthest corners of the world. The resistance and pressure demonstrated by Martyr Khamenei have left an indelible mark in history,” noted the political figure.
Pezeshkian also stated that the Islamic Republic sees it as its duty and legal right to seek revenge for this historical crime in order to punish all those involved in its organization. The President of Iran called those who carried out the assassination despicable criminals.
On the morning of February 28, Israel and the U.S. launched a series of strikes against Iran, resulting in the death of the 86-year-old Khamenei, who was at his workplace carrying out his official duties. Four members of the ayatollah's family also lost their lives in the attacks.
A 40-day mourning period and a week of non-working days have been declared in Iran, while hundreds of people have taken to the streets in Iran and neighboring countries.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has stated that the death of Iran's Supreme Leader will not go unanswered. Military officials also announced intentions to carry out the most powerful offensive operation against Israeli and U.S. bases in the near future.
