EU Considers Complete Ban on Russian Steel Supplies
The European Union is discussing the possibility of a complete ban on Russian steel supplies in a bid to limit funding for the war against Ukraine.
According to Politico, the EU is weighing the option of imposing a full ban on Russian steel imports. The corresponding amendments have been introduced as part of a legislative initiative and, as noted by Swedish lawmaker Karina Karlsson, aim to cut Russian President Vladimir Putin's military budget.
The initiative comes at a time when an increase in Russian steel imports was recorded in 2025, and the current protective measures are nearing their expiration.
