Situation at the Mother Cathedral
Hundreds of people have gathered at the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin. Supporters of the church are on one side, while on the other side are supporters of the bishops demanding the resignation of the Catholicos.
Ten bishops demanding Garegin II's resignation are planning to go to the Mother Cathedral at 17:00. At the same time, the Aragatsotn Diocese announced that the joint service scheduled for December 18 at the Church of St. John in Byurakan has been moved to the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin today at 17:00.
Many citizens, public and political figures have declared their intention to go to the Mother Cathedral in support of the Catholicos and the church. The Armenian National Security Service also urged in the morning to refrain from provocative actions, stating that they will carry out their legally granted functions.
The faithful have gathered near the entrance of the Mother Cathedral, waiting for His Holiness Catholicos Garegin II to arrive for the service, accompanied by clergymen. The chant for the protection of the Patriarch is resounding. Supporters of the anti-church campaign are shouting "leave," but the chants of the faithful respond: "Venerable, Venerable, Venerable."
