Inter's Goalkeeper Martinez Faces Up to 7 Years in Prison
The Spanish goalkeeper of Milan's Inter, Jose Martinez, is facing up to seven years in prison for delivering a fatal blow to an elderly man in a wheelchair, according to Armsport.am.
The 81-year-old man died at the scene despite the efforts of the football player and medical personnel. Authorities are conducting an investigation.
One theory suggests that the man, who was confined to a wheelchair, may have suddenly changed direction due to a deterioration in his health, leading to the accident.
The Como Prosecutor's Office has initiated an investigation under charges of involuntary manslaughter and is looking into the circumstances of the incident. Under Italian law, the player could face a prison sentence of two to seven years.
Martinez, 27, has been playing for Inter since his transfer from Genoa in the summer of 2024.
