What Was Destroyed in the Fire at the Jrvaz Sponge Factory: New Details
On August 25, at 16:57, the National Crisis Management Center received a report that a fire had broken out in one of the factories in the village of Jrvaz.
With the fire complexity rated as 'Level 2,' six firefighting teams from the Ministry of Emergency Situations’ rescue service in Yerevan, along with duty personnel from the firefighting and rescue operations organization departments, operational teams from the National Crisis Management Center, medical support standby groups, and a chemical reconnaissance officer from the department of radiological, chemical, and biological situation monitoring were dispatched to the scene.
It was determined that the fire had begun in the warehouse (3000 square meters) and yard area of the sponge production factory. The fire complexity was raised to 'Level 3,' prompting an additional four firefighting teams from the Yerevan rescue service to respond. Another six teams from the urban and regional rescue divisions were also sent for assistance.
The fire was contained by 18:17 and extinguished by 19:16. Building materials, raw materials for construction, and sponges were burned. As a result of the operational measures, firefighters managed to prevent the spread of the fire to barrels full of sponge raw materials.
