VIDEO: Being Prime Minister Doesn't Mean You Can Do Whatever You Want, There Is No Procedure for Removing the Catholicos
The Armenian people elect their Catholicos, and there is no procedure for his removal. This was stated by the leader of the "Strong Armenia" faction, Narek Karapetyan, outside the court.
"There is no procedure; our church does not have a procedure for removal, such a thing does not exist. A secular person cannot do it either. Our Constitution does not allow for the church and state to interfere with each other. The church is separate, and the state is separate," he noted.
It is noteworthy that earlier it was reported that the Supreme Patriarch and bishops would participate in the first hearing of the court case. This was shared by lawyer Ara Zohrapyan.
"On August 7 at 16:00, the first hearing of the preliminary criminal proceedings against His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, and six bishops from the Supreme Spiritual Council will take place in the first instance general jurisdiction court of Armavir region (Vagharshapat, 15 St. Gregory the Illuminator street, courtroom 1). The case will be examined by Judge Hakob Manukyan," he wrote.
