Vance Explains Why Trump is Calling Putin
The Ukrainian peace process is entering a deadlock, and for this reason, U.S. President Donald Trump is preparing for a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was announced by U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance.
“We think we are heading into a deadlock, so the president will speak with him on the phone. They intend to negotiate today and again a second time after Trump and Putin’s conversation. The U.S. is ready to exit the peace process regarding Ukraine. If Russia is not willing to participate, ultimately the U.S. must say that this is not our war,” Vance stated.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt announced today that Donald Trump is “tired and frustrated” with both Russia and Ukraine. “The president and his team have made huge efforts to resolve this very complex war, which began because of the weakness of the previous administration,” she said.
It is noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin had offered to resume unconditional direct negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul on May 15. He did not rule out that parties could agree on a ceasefire during the corresponding negotiations.
