Israeli Broadcaster Insults Armenians
An anchor from Israel's public broadcasting corporation, Kan 11, insulted Armenians live on air. This was reported by Sputnik Armenia.
“I can’t believe we gave away an entire neighborhood in Jerusalem to these guys,” the anchor said after a speech by Armenia's representative, Pargi.
According to a statement from the SavetheArQ movement, its members are shocked by the broadcaster's words and strongly condemn the disgraceful remark. “This is a disturbing, unfounded, racist, and insulting statement that targets the ancient community, an integral part of Jerusalem's historical, religious, and cultural fabric. First and foremost, we want to clarify that the Armenian Quarter of Jerusalem has not been ‘given’ to anyone. It has been built, maintained, and cultivated over the centuries by the Armenian people, who have preserved their uninterrupted presence in the Holy Land and Jerusalem for more than 1600 years. This presence is globally recognized and is a unique contribution to the spiritual, cultural, and historical life of the city,” the statement reads.
The Armenian Quarter, one of the four quarters of the Old City, serves as a symbol of coexistence and collaboration between communities and religions. Therefore, such statements are not only incorrect but also offensive and dangerous, damaging the possibility of coexistence in Jerusalem. “We will not allow broadcasters or any other parties to distort historical truths or tarnish the dignity of an entire community and nation,” the statement adds.
