Trump Threatens Putin with 'Destructive' Sanctions
Trump has considered the possibility of imposing sanctions against Russia. U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that Washington may impose new "destructive" sanctions on Moscow if the conflict in Ukraine is not resolved. Moreover, he clarified that he would prefer not to escalate sanctions.
“I will resort to that if I have to. The sanctions will be destructive for Russia. They are currently in a difficult economic situation; oil prices are low,” Trump stated in an interview with Fox News.
The U.S. President also expressed confidence that a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin could be planned. He believes he will be able to negotiate an agreement with Moscow regarding the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. In early May, Donald Trump had already stated that the U.S. could impose new sanctions against Russia. According to him, Washington’s decision depends on whether Moscow will "act towards peace" or not.
