Turkey's 25,000-Population Poisoning Causes Identified: New Details

Authorities in the Turkish town of Lice have burned 20 tons of confiscated marijuana, resulting in an unintentional poisoning of its 25,000 residents due to the smoke plume emitted. Local residents have reported toxic effects including dizziness, nausea, and visual disturbances, according to Turkish media sources.

The president of the 'Green Star' association condemned the incident, stating that such an approach is irresponsible, as the smoke produced during drug incineration poses risks to human health similar to passive smoking. He emphasized that such substances should be destroyed in industrial areas equipped with filtered chimneys.

The burned marijuana is valued at over $260 million. During the incineration, the packages were arranged so that the word “Lice” was visible from above, which was also criticized as unprofessional and inappropriate.

Although no official complaints have yet been lodged, residents continue to experience health issues, and some have sought medical attention.
