‘Glorious’ disgrace: Why is the HFF silent?
In the final round of the European Championship qualifying phase, the Armenian youth national team suffered a 1:0 defeat to Albania while playing at home. Thus, in the qualifying round, the Armenian team finished without a single victory, recording 8 losses, 2 draws, and ending the tournament table with just 2 points. In 10 matches, the Armenian youth team managed to score only two goals while conceding 21. The results can perhaps be described as a ‘glorious’ disgrace.
Days ago, when the Armenian national team lost 0:2 to North Macedonia in the Nations League group stage, the Football Federation of Armenia hurriedly dismissed Ukrainian specialist Alexander Petrakov, considering him responsible for the failure. After the disgraceful showing of the youth team, the HFF remains silent. In this case, it may be harder to find a scapegoat. Unfortunately, the past few years have showcased a disgraceful picture across all age groups of Armenia's national teams. In this instance, the culprits and those accountable are not just Petrakov and the other coaches, but the football system that is leading towards a precipice.
