Nikol Pashinyan wrote on his Facebook page: “The strategic choice currently being discussed in our country is as follows: Is the Republic of Armenia to serve as a forward post, a stronghold, aiming to create a larger state (the concept of historical Armenia), or is it to be a mechanism for ensuring the well-being of its own citizens in its internationally recognized territory (the concept of modern Armenia), with the understanding that essential components of well-being are good living conditions, freedom, justice, and security.

My conviction is that our people made their choice long ago in favor of modern Armenia. However, we, the different rulers at various times, have not listened to them, but instead imposed on our people a life within a 'historical cycle'. For this reason, we must apologize to our people, and I ask for my share of forgiveness.”
