New Details on Soldier's Death Incident
A soldier has been detained on charges of inciting the suicide of Edgar Aleksanyan. This was reported by the Investigative Committee.
The statement says, “As already reported by the RA Investigative Committee, on September 2, 2024, around 10:10, the body of soldier Edgar Aleksanyan was found at a combat position in the protective area of Military Unit N of the RA Ministry of Defense, with a gunshot wound to the neck.”
“Following the incident, a criminal case was initiated the same day in the third investigative division of the military investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee under Article 522, Part 2, Clause 3 of the RA Criminal Code, based on extensive procedural and evidential actions carried out. Several significant circumstances of the incident have been established.
In particular, factual evidence has been obtained indicating that H.E., a conscript soldier in the military unit of the RA Ministry of Defense, who was serving as an observer in the combat position during the period from August 27 to September 2, 2024, violated several regulatory rules about military respect, conduct, order, and discipline regarding the relationship of servicemen. He repeatedly insulted the personal honor and dignity of soldier E. Aleksanyan, who was also serving as an observer at the same combat position, using foul language and physically assaulting him in front of other personnel.
Finding himself in a hopeless situation, E. Aleksanyan shot himself in the neck with an 'AKM' type rifle around 09:45 in the same combat position while performing his observatory duties on September 2, 2024.
Based on sufficient gathered evidence, H.E. has been charged under Article 522, Part 2, Clause 3 of the RA Criminal Code and has been remanded in custody by court decision.
