Electricity Outage During Government Meeting Explained by HETC
During the government meeting, the lights went out due to work being carried out in the BEC, which was outside the responsibility of HETC. This was stated by Karen Darbinyan, the chairman of the board of directors of HETC, during a meeting with journalists.
“Half of Yerevan is going out, half of the Armavir region is going out, and it receives a large response,” he said.
According to the official, the power outage on August 7 during a performance at the Opera was related to the deficiency of a transformer in the theater's balance. “All of this was thoroughly explained to the relevant staff of the theater, and it was mentioned that one of the transformers needed to be replaced, but our opinion was ignored, after which the well-known accident occurred. Our experts studied the cause again after the accident and noted that the issue was with the transformer. As a result, the head of the Opera sent a letter to HETC, requesting that the theater's transformer be replaced with a new one as part of a charitable program, since they have financial problems and cannot afford to do it themselves,” explained Darbinyan.
He also mentioned that during a football match at the Abovyan stadium, before the power cut, HETC received a note from the Football Federation of Armenia concerning the disconnection of two transformers. One of the transformers was disconnected. “As a result, on the day of the match, the entire load fell on one transformer and one direction, which could not withstand the overload and went out. HETC’s staff responded swiftly to eliminate the accident, which allowed the electricity supply to be restored quickly,” said Karen Darbinyan. He noted that they supported both the Opera and the stadium as much as possible, although, according to Darbinyan, this was not their responsibility.
