VIDEO: If the People Want, Who Am I to Say No? Bishop on Potential Prime Minister Candidacy
I am a dual citizen and have a Canadian passport, obtained during my time serving spiritually there. This was announced by Bishop Bagrat.
“I have neither had such aspirations nor desire, also for principle reasons. At the same time, I am a dual citizen, which I have never hidden. My Canadian passport was granted to me when I served spiritually in Canada for 10 years. I am currently in Armenia for the same purpose, even in the most difficult areas. There’s a questionable tabloid, ‘Haykakan Zhamanak,’ that published two stories suggesting that the state is acting through a newspaper, its press organ, which is hardly even Armenian. They wrote that Bishop Bagrat has no right because he is a dual citizen — how can you confuse such things, you sons of men? Bishop Bagrat is the spiritual leader of the Tavush Diocese, higher than your prime minister’s seat. If the people want it, the Catholicos of All Armenians can bless it, who am I to say no? But I do not wish for it,” declared the Bishop.
