VIDEO: Block the streets, people. Archbishop Bagrat appeals to civil disobedience protesters
One of the leaders of the "Tavush for the Homeland" movement, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan of the Tavush Diocese, called on citizens to block the streets across the republic. Peaceful civil disobedience actions have been taking place in the capital since this morning. Some participants, led by Archbishop Bagrat, have been visiting universities urging students and faculty to hold classes in protest.
"I am being told to give specifics—block the streets, not carry out civil disobedience actions. Now I say, block the streets, people. Block every street you can in every possible way. We have news that there is a road clearly blocked in the Syunik province, and the gates of Syunik will be opened when we want or say so," said Archbishop Bagrat.
He emphasized that it is a working day and working hours, yet their protest action is well-attended. The leader of the "Tavush for the Homeland" movement stressed that this also means that Armenia will not die, no matter how much attempts have been made to kill it from within.
Recall that the march that started from the village of Kiran in Tavush province on May 4 reached Yerevan on May 9. A rally took place at Republic Square in the evening, during which movement leader Archbishop Bagrat gave Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan one hour to resign, which did not happen. After that, he called for peaceful civil disobedience actions to begin across the republic on May 10.
