Dangerous Cargo: Homemade Bombs Hidden in Religious Icons Stopped from Entering Russia
Employees of the Federal Security Service of Russia, in collaboration with customs officials, have thwarted the import of 27 homemade bombs concealed within religious icons and church items from Ukraine to Russia, reports ria.ru.
According to the FSB, a total of 27 improvised explosive devices were found in a shipment traveling from Ukraine through Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and into Russia. Among the discovered explosives was 70 kg of high-power plastic explosive, ready for use, along with 91 electric detonators.
The cargo was intercepted at the Ubilinka automobile checkpoint in the Pskov region, which borders Latvia. The suspect involved in the crime has been detained. It was reported that the explosives were being transported to Moscow.
