VIDEO: 350 Trees Planted Instead of 300 Trees Cut Down in Yerevan's Replacement Program
This spring, it was planned to replace approximately 400 trees in Yerevan. During the process, 300 minor-leaved oaks were cut down. In their place, 350 new and functional trees were planted, filling in areas left vacant by previously cut or fallen trees. This information was provided by the Yerevan City Hall, which noted that the replaced trees had various diseases, were deformed, and were no longer viable.
“Every year, dozens of reports are received regarding trees falling due to the wind. Experts in the field of biology point out that this indicates the unhealthy condition of the trees. The replacement of trees that have lost their viability is also aimed at revitalizing the city’s green fund. Moreover, the newly planted trees must not only match the city’s climate but also its architecture,” the statement said.
According to the source, the trees eligible for replacement in Yerevan are continuously being cataloged, and there is currently no exact number. However, all trees that have lost viability must be replaced over time. It was also noted that after the trees are replaced, the cut wood is transported to the Yerevan Greenhouse and Nursery Administration, from where it will be distributed to socially vulnerable families.
