Former U.S. President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, has revealed that his father's cancer has spread to his bones and other organs. In an interview with BBC News, Hunter Biden explained that the illness is causing severe pain for the 83-year-old former president and is seriously worsening his condition.

“Cancer is a very heavy thing. It’s very sad to see that,” Hunter Biden said, unable to hold back his emotions. According to him, the illness has given “metastases in the bones and other places,” while his father's condition is “very painful” and “exhausting.”

Hunter Biden referred to his father as “the center of our family,” regarding him as the best father, husband, and grandfather. “The only thing I can say about my father and his health is that I wish he would complain more,” he added.

During the conversation, Hunter Biden also commented on his father's decision to grant him full and unconditional pardon, which was signed in December 2024. He acknowledged that granting clemency was a bad move from the perspective of American societal interests, the Constitution, and Joe Biden’s political legacy, but expressed gratitude to his father for that decision.

“What would you think of my father if he didn’t do that for me?” Hunter Biden asked. He noted that Joe Biden took this step out of concern that his son might become a target of Donald Trump’s administration. At the same time, Hunter mentioned that he and his father had not discussed the possibility of clemency before the official decision was made.

Joe Biden pardoned his son in December 2024, despite previously stating that he would not interfere in his son’s criminal matters. The pardon related to a federal conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm, a tax case in which Hunter pleaded guilty, and any other federal crimes committed during the years 2014-2024.

Hunter Biden also spoke about his severe addiction to drugs. He stated that during the worst part of it, he was drinking nearly a gallon of alcohol a day and using crack almost every 15 minutes. He described that period as “a hell on earth,” stating that drugs and alcohol initially seemed to him to be a way to fight anxiety and loneliness, but ultimately nearly killed him.

Hunter Biden added that he does not intend to run for elected office and wants to help others overcome addiction.
