Armenia and Azerbaijan Have Made Important and Bold Steps Towards Peace: France
The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that August 8, 2026, marks one year since the historical agreement on the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan was reached.
"Over the past year, the authorities of both countries have taken important and bold steps towards making peace a tangible reality for their peoples," the statement reads.
The French Ministry expressed hope that the process would continue with the signing and ratification of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the opening of borders, and the development of regional connections.
"This will create an opportunity to transform the South Caucasus into a zone of comprehensive cooperation and a link connecting Europe to Asia," the statement adds.
The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs also emphasized that France will continue to actively contribute to ensuring the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and Armenia in collaboration with European partners.
"This will take place under conditions of complete mutual respect for both countries," the statement concludes.
