I Must Prove My Worth on the Field: Mkhitaryan on His Future with Inter

The Armenian midfielder of Milan's Inter, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, gave an interview to the Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport ahead of the 2026/27 season. Speaking about contract extension and guarantees of playing time, he stated, 'I have not received any guarantees. It wouldn't be fair, as I must prove on the field that I deserve a place in the team. However, I feel that I can play at a high level for another year, so we decided to stay on for another year with the club. After that, we will see.'

Discussing his role for the new season, Mkhitaryan emphasized, 'The role is the usual one. I have always trained to the maximum to set an example for others, especially the younger players.'

When asked if this is his last year in his career, the player replied, 'I don’t know (laughs). It is impossible to determine today. I need to see how I feel at the end of this season. At my age, it doesn’t make sense to make long-term plans.'

The former captain of the Armenian national team extended his contract with Inter last month until the summer of 2027.
