European Parliament Votes on Resolution to Consider Armenia's EU Membership Candidacy
During today's session in the European Parliament, a resolution was put to a vote regarding the deepening of ties between the EU and Armenia, as well as the necessity of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The document, authored by the European People's Party, is presented as a joint initiative from all factions.
In the draft resolution, Members of the European Parliament specifically propose to consider the possibility of granting Armenia candidate status for EU membership. "If Armenia is interested in obtaining candidate status and continues on a path of stable reforms that strengthen its democracy, this could serve as a basis for a transformative phase in EU-Armenia relations," the joint resolution from the EU's legislative body states.
Members of Parliament urge the executive authorities of the European Union, including the Commission and the Council, to actively support Armenia in expanding its cooperation with the EU, not only in terms of economic partnership but also in political dialogue, security, people-to-people contacts, and sectoral integration.
The vote on the resolution is scheduled for the end of the working day.
