Hungary Asks Ukraine to Continue Transit of Russian Oil to Europe

The head of Hungary's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, has stated that Budapest has requested Kyiv to continue the transit of Russian oil through its territory to Central European countries. This was reported by TASS.

According to the Minister, during negotiations with Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and the head of the presidential office Andriy Yermak, he asked them to ensure the reliable transfer of oil through Ukrainian territory.

Szijjártó also raised the issue of the inadmissibility of Hungarian companies being included in the Ukrainian list of 'international war sponsors,' as was the case with OTP Bank, due to its intention to continue operations in the Russian financial market.

It has previously become known that the European Union is preparing for the expiration of the gas transit agreement between Russia and Ukraine at the end of 2024 and is exploring alternative routes for gas supply to Europe.

The EU believes that even countries most dependent on Russian gas, including Austria and Slovakia, will be able to find alternative suppliers if transit through Ukraine is halted.
