Yerevan Council Approves Annual Fee of 160,000 AMD for Red-Line Parking
In the Central administrative district of Yerevan, drivers will be required to pay an annual fee of 160,000 AMD for parking within five days. The Yerevan Council approved the bill on local tax rates for 2024, with 32 votes in favor and 3 against. The 'National Progress' and 'Mother Armenia' factions boycotted the vote.
“If it’s too much, let them not park,” said citizens regarding the upcoming payment for the 'red lines'. One of the points of the bill pertains to red-line parking areas. According to it, starting January 1, 2024, in the central part of the city (Zone 'A'), citizens will pay 300 AMD for one hour, 2,000 AMD for one day, 5,000 AMD for one week, 18,000 AMD for one month, and 160,000 AMD for one year for parking on red lines. In contrast, for streets included in Zone 'B', citizens will pay 200 AMD for one hour, 1,000 AMD for one day, 2,000 AMD for one week, 4,000 AMD for one month, and 24,000 AMD for one year.
Haik Kostanyan, the spokesperson for the Yerevan Mayor, told Auroranews that this fee does not apply to electric vehicles, which are exempt from parking fees on red lines in the center of Yerevan. This initiative aims to encourage the use of electric transportation, which has a significant environmental component.
