What is the Reason for the Increase in Parking Fees in Yerevan? Deputy Mayor Provides Details
Under the leadership of Yerevan's Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan, a public discussion was held. The topic was a new project concerning parking fees in Yerevan. Grigoryan emphasized that the main goal is to alleviate congestion in the city center.
When asked whether international practices had been studied, the deputy mayor responded, “International experience includes prohibiting parking in any area altogether, and part of that is prohibiting parking for over two hours without payment. When you talk about international experience, it includes much stricter regulations.”
Grigoryan also presented the justifications for the proposed changes: “This is a change proposed by the executive, which still needs to be approved, rejected, or accepted with certain amendments by the council. Our goal is not to increase budget revenues. In other words, comments that imply the purpose is to collect more money are incorrect; the aim is to relieve congestion in the small center.”
He pointed out that traffic and congestion in the center are increasing day by day, and the dissatisfaction with public transport is a consequence of this.
