The Narratives Similar to the Zangezur Corridor Will Not Be Realized, Says Iranian Ambassador in Baku
“The idea of a 'Zangezur Corridor' and similar narratives cannot be brought to life. This was stated by Seyyed Abbas Mousavi, the Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan, during a specialized session on the topic of the ‘Araks Corridor’. This information was reported by Pars Today.
“Everyone has acknowledged that narratives similar to the Zangezur Corridor cannot be realized. In this context, the agreement between Azerbaijan and Iran on the creation of the Araks transportation corridor presents a timely opportunity,” he said.
He pointed out that after the events surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, various frameworks for regional peaceful settlement have been proposed. Meanwhile, according to him, Western countries have sought to marginalize Iran from the region through various narratives; however, as a result of measures taken at different levels, this issue has now been removed from the agenda.
The Iranian ambassador also stated that opportunities for broad consensus have emerged through the implementation of economic initiatives in the region.
It is noteworthy that Azerbaijan and Turkey have been practically insisting for three years that a transcontinental corridor be provided through the Syunik region of Armenia to ensure a land connection between the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and the rest of Azerbaijan. Iran has repeatedly opposed this scenario.
