Vagif Khachatryan Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison

A resident of Nagorno-Karabakh, 68-year-old Vagif Khachatryan has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by a court in Baku. This information has been reported by Azerbaijani media.

Khachatryan will serve the first five years in a regular prison, followed by the remainder of his sentence in a high-security colony.

He has been accused of “genocide and the displacement of Azerbaijanis,” allegedly committed in December 1991 in the village of Meshali in the Khojaly region. It is expected that today the “accusatory conclusion” will be released, detailing the proposed sentence for him.

It is noteworthy that Vagif Khachatryan does not plead guilty and denies the charges against him.

Recall that 68-year-old Vagif Khachatryan was illegally detained at the Berdzor checkpoint on July 29 while attempting to transfer to Armenia for surgery through the Red Cross.
