Why the Arches at the Republic Square Metro Station Are Painted Yellow: Explanations from the Metro
The arches at the Republic Square metro station in Yerevan have been painted bright yellow halfway, which has sparked discontent among citizens.
Specifically, users on social media are stating that this is "tasteless," that it has "completely ruined the appearance," and that the yellow color is inappropriate, given that these arches have been painted white for decades. Some are even joking that perhaps soon a blue shade will be added, turning it into the Ukrainian flag.
Auroranews contacted Tatyana Khachatryan, the spokesperson for the Karen Demirchyan Metro, to find out why they chose yellow specifically. In our conversation, Khachatryan stated: "The inter-column section of the Republic Square station has been painted yellow for almost a month. The paint has hydrophobic properties. In transport systems, the color yellow has a cautionary, alerting significance; that is why yellow was chosen. Additionally, I should mention that the edge lines of the escalator steps are also yellow. Our goal was to maintain the integrity of the color solution to some extent."
