Nearly 500 Casualties in Artsakh from Military Operations and Fuel Depot Explosion
Following the large-scale Azerbaijani attack on Artsakh on September 19, there are over 200 confirmed military casualties, as well as more than two dozen civilian deaths, reported Hunan Tadevosyan, spokesperson for the Artsakh Ministry of Internal Affairs. Additionally, he mentioned that there have been 220 confirmed deaths from the explosion at a fuel depot on September 25.
Tadevosyan noted that nearly 150 of those deceased remain unidentified: "The bodies and remains have been removed from the explosion site and transferred to the Forensic Examination Center in Yerevan for DNA testing for identification. There are also over 50 individuals reported missing."
It is important to recall that Azerbaijan launched a large-scale attack on Artsakh on September 19. According to reports, the number of casualties due to Azerbaijani aggression exceeds 220.
On September 20, Artsakh's authorities accepted a proposal for a ceasefire. Representatives from Stepanakert and Baku met in Yevlakh on September 21 and again in Yevlakh on September 29, with a meeting held in Ivanian on September 25. Forced displacement of the residents of Artsakh began on September 24.
On September 28, Artsakh President Samvel Shahramanyan signed a decree stating that the Republic of Artsakh would cease to exist as of January 1, 2024. According to the latest data, 100,632 people have relocated from Artsakh to the Republic of Armenia.
