Khandanyan Responds to Turkey's Concerns about the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant
Armenia will act based on its own interests in the field of energy. This was stated today, October 3, during a conversation with journalists by the Chairman of the Permanent Commission on Foreign Relations of the Armenian Parliament, Sargis Khandanyan.
“Armenia has its energy security strategy, and such demands are irrelevant,” he said.
It is noteworthy that according to Turkish media, the Turkish Parliament has received applications from citizens regarding the Armenian nuclear power plant. In the response letter from the Parliament, it is mentioned that the Turkish authorities have always kept the risk management of nuclear power plants under close observation and have also informed the IAEA that “the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant poses a danger.”
“If I am not mistaken, similar applications have been received previously; this has not been the first time,” Khandanyan added. He reminded that the entire world is now transitioning to nuclear energy, considering the issues related to hydrocarbon reserves.
