The Civil Contract Cannot Appoint a Mayor Alone

The Central Electoral Commission has summarized the results from all 475 polling stations formed for the Yerevan City Council elections.

According to the published data, five political forces have crossed the necessary threshold to be elected to the Yerevan City Council. The minimum passing threshold is 4% for parties and 6% for alliances. The Civil Contract received votes from only 75,463 voters, which constitutes 32.57% of those who participated in the voting. In second place is the 'National Progress' party with 18.89% (43,765 votes), third is 'Mother Armenia' with 15.43% (35,739 votes), fourth is 'Republic' with 11.32% (26,236 votes), and fifth is 'Public Voice' with 9.68% (22,431 votes).

The Civil Contract cannot appoint a mayor alone. According to current legislation, if any party or alliance manages to obtain more than 50% of the votes, the first candidate on the electoral list becomes the mayor by law; otherwise, the mayor will be elected by the council from its members. To elect a mayor of Yerevan, it will be necessary to form a coalition.

According to the votes, the mandates will be distributed as follows: 'Public Voice' - 7, 'Civil Contract' - 24, 'National Progress' - 14, 'Republic' - 8, 'Mother Armenia' - 12.
