No One Wants to Join Russia: Abkhaz Side Comments on Medvedev's Statement
Abkhazia supports close and allied relations with Russia; however, there are no forces in the republic that would express a desire to join Russia. This is how Sergey Shamba, the Secretary of the Security Council of Abkhazia, commented on the statements made by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia.
Earlier, Medvedev noted in an article published on aif.ru that the idea of joining Russia is still prevalent in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, "and it can be realized if there is a good opportunity for it."
