Turkey Prepares for Possible Earthquake
The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of Turkey has predicted that if an earthquake occurs with its epicenter in the Sea of Marmara, the regions that will suffer the most damage are Adalar, Avcılar, Bahçelievler, Bakırköy, Beylikdüzü, Büyükçekmece, Küçükçekmece, Maltepe, Tuzla, Üsküdar, Zeytinburnu, and Sultanbeyli in Istanbul Province. Fatih, Tuzla, and Esenler continue to be areas at high risk of severe damage.
Local authorities have already begun testing the seismic resistance of buildings.
