Peace in the Region Must Include the Protection of the Rights and Security of the Population of Artsakh, State Department
The United States is aware of the detention of Vagif Khachatryan at the checkpoint of the Lachin corridor, who was being transported to Armenia for medical treatment accompanied by a humanitarian organization, the U.S. State Department reported in response to a question from the Armenian service of Voice of America.
The State Department added that, overall, the United States remains deeply concerned about Azerbaijan's continuous closure of the Lachin corridor for commercial, humanitarian, and private vehicles.
According to the U.S. foreign policy agency, the cessation of humanitarian movement further exacerbates the humanitarian situation and undermines efforts to build confidence in the peace process.
“The free movement of commercial, humanitarian, and private vehicles through the Lachin corridor must be restored immediately,” the State Department's response stated.
“We consistently assert that peace in the region must include the protection of the rights and security of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh. We welcome dialogue aimed at this goal,” the U.S. State Department emphasized in its response.
