July 2023 Could Become the Hottest Month on Record Worldwide, Guterres Says

The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has declared that July 2023 is set to redefine previous heat benchmarks. This was reported by Reuters.

Scientists have indicated that this July will be the hottest month recorded globally. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the EU's Copernicus climate change service have jointly asserted that it is highly likely that July 2023 will break the record.

"There is no need to wait until the end of the month to find out. Unless there is a mini ice age in the coming days, July 2023 will set a record worldwide," Guterres stated.

Discussing climate change, he emphasized that it is terrifying and just the beginning. The effects of July's heat are evident worldwide. Thousands of tourists have fled the wildfires on the Greek island of Rhodes. In northwest China, temperatures have reached as high as 52.2°C, exceeding the national record.

It is noted that while the World Meteorological Organization has not yet recorded the record, it will wait until August for final data.
