Today is Vardavar: Ministry of Internal Affairs Issues Advisory
The Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates the Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ today, known as Vardavar. This celebration is the third of the five major feasts in the Armenian Church.
The feast is also known by its name, Vardavar. A popular tradition during this celebration is to sprinkle water on one another and release doves, symbolizing the flood, the salvation of Noah's family, and Noah's dove. Another custom is to adorn oneself with flowers, which is a great expression of joy in honor of the manifestation of the Son of God.
In light of the Vardavar celebrations, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the police have stepped up their services in the republic's leisure areas, particularly around Lake Sevan and its beaches.
"Dear citizens, we urge you to observe safety rules, remain vigilant, and follow the instructions of rescuers in aquatic areas. In forested and vegetation-covered regions, please adhere to fire safety regulations, do not drive under the influence, and maintain community standards," states the message from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
