Desert Locusts and Grasshoppers Attack Yeghipatroush Village
Yeghipatroush village in the Aragatsotn region has been under attack by desert locusts and grasshoppers. Countless insects have spread throughout the village, posing a challenge to residents. The pests are everywhere - in the fields, on windows, and in backyards. Despite the rainy weather, villagers have initiated a significant fight against them.
In an interview with Auroranews, village leader Marzpet Grigoryan mentioned that there has been a noticeable retreat of the insects at this time. “We received poison from the ministry; the residents are fighting them with the poison, and then the ministry brought drones,” Grigoryan said, adding that due to heavy rains these past couple of days, they have been unable to perform tasks.
Grigoryan noted that while they have heard about such incidents, this is the first time they have seen it in their village. “During the rain, locusts do not come out; they prefer sunny weather. The Ministry of Economy has been fighting them. Even the Deputy Minister mentioned that they need to take a helicopter from the Ministry of Defense for large-scale combat operations,” he emphasized.
Although locusts and grasshoppers have spread throughout the village, the village mayor states that there has been little damage. Villagers are waiting for an improvement in weather conditions to continue their fight.
