"Those Who Commit War Crimes in Ukraine Must Pay a Price": President of the European Parliament
The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, has visited Ukraine, where an international three-day conference on war crimes has been held in Lviv.
Metsola stated in a press conference that those responsible for war crimes in Ukraine must pay a price. "When we talk about peace, we must also talk about accountability. Whoever commits such crimes must pay for them. This means that if we find jurisdiction for the crime of aggression, we must also find legal means for the enforcement of justice," said Metsola.
According to her, the issue is about holding specific culprits accountable, even if it involves Vladimir Putin. The slogan of the conference in Lviv is "United for Justice." The agenda includes the establishment of an international court to hold Russia and its leaders accountable for war crimes in Ukraine.
"As a lawyer, I say that if we cannot find a legal solution, we will jeopardize Ukraine, and not just the Ukrainians, but everyone in this world who wants to be assured that those who commit aggression outside of Europe will be held accountable," Metsola added.
At the conference in Lviv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also met with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.
