U.S. Diplomat to Visit Armenia and Baku for the First Time on Armenian-Azerbaijani Issues
Senior advisor for Caucasus negotiations, Luis Bono, will visit the region next week on his inaugural trip in this capacity, announced U.S. State Department spokesperson Ned Price.
“We expect these to be regular trips to all three South Caucasus countries. Bono plans to meet with senior leaders to support the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. As part of his visit, he will travel to all three South Caucasus countries: Baku, Yerevan, and Tbilisi in that order,” said Price.
According to him, this will give Bono the opportunity to build on the outcomes of the meeting between the U.S. Secretary of State, the Prime Minister of Armenia, and the President of Azerbaijan, which took place mid-February at the Munich Security Conference.
“As mentioned at the conclusion of this trilateral engagement, we are encouraged by the recent efforts of Armenia and Azerbaijan to actively participate in the peace process. And Bono is helping, as he hopes to advance those efforts and see this progress continue. In all three cities, Bono will emphasize that the United States is committed to ensuring a peaceful, democratic, and prosperous future for the South Caucasus region,” the State Department spokesperson stated.
