Scholz Reveals Germany's Main Objective Regarding Russia
The Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, stated that Germany's goal is to prevent the expansion of Russia's borders. The German politician's video message was published on the government’s website.
“Our objective is clear—Russia must not be able to shift borders through the use of force,” said Scholz.
He outlined three principles that Germany will adhere to regarding the conflict in Ukraine. First, the Bundestag will continue to provide humanitarian, financial, and military aid to Kyiv. Second, Berlin will not allow the conflict to escalate into a war between NATO and Russia. Third, the Chancellor promised the country’s citizens that the government will carefully consider the measures taken in Ukraine and will act only alongside its allies.
It is noteworthy that Germany announced the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Berlin will form two tank battalions, with the first phase involving the provision of 14 Leopard 2 A6 tanks from reserves to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Previously, Russia sent a note to NATO countries regarding the supply of weapons. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized that any cargo containing military equipment for Kyiv would be destroyed by Russia's aerospace forces in the neighboring republic.
