Azerbaijan Must Protect Armenian Prisoners of War: Hague Court
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has established that Azerbaijan is obligated to protect Armenian prisoners of war captured as a result of Azerbaijani aggression in September 2022.
The Hague Court reached this decision on October 7, 2022, in response to a request from Armenia, which sought amendments to the previous ruling regarding interim measures applied against Azerbaijan in the case of 'Armenia v. Azerbaijan' dated December 7, 2021.
According to a statement from the Office of the Republic of Armenia's Representative on International Legal Issues, the ICJ's decision on October 12 noted that Azerbaijan has continued its policy toward Armenian prisoners since the December 7 decision, putting ethnic Armenians at serious risk of irreparable harm.
